Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.
-Mohandas

Words are magical. They are dynamic little messengers that help you manifest your desires. Whatever we say has the potential to heal or to harm as words can be constructive or destructive, positive or negative.

The Gospel of John in the Bible spoke of the creation of the universe, “In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word is God.” Everything is energy. Our intentions behind the use of the words and how we associate with them creates the end result regardless if the words were spoken out loud or merely simmering in the mind as thoughts.

In the spirit of the recent Bersih 2.0 rally in town over last weekend, let’s look at our very own personal integrity. The rally signifies the major upheaval needed for us before we as a nation step up and take total responsibility of our own lives.

Are you living in accord with your higher state of consciousness? We must clean up our acts at the personal level before transformation can be seen outside. Change always starts from within.

Please don’t get me wrong. There’s nothing wrong with the rally. Everything is happening in the perfect order of the universe. Everyone has their very own role to play in the unfolding of the Divine Plan. I applaud the spiritual warriors who felt driven to participate in the campaign for justice and integrity. There is a considerable speed up in our wake-up process.

I found Don Miguel Ruiz’s First Agreement - ‘Be Impeccable with Your Word’ in his book The Four Agreements extremely powerful. One of the turning points in my life was when I attended a workshop on Integrity about 5 years ago.

Ruiz explains, “Impeccable means ‘without sin’. A sin is anything you do which goes against yourself. Everything you feel or believe or say that goes against yourself is a sin. You go against yourself when you judge or blame yourself for anything. When you are impeccable, you take responsibility for your actions but you do not judge or blame yourself.”

Stepping up to this level of personal integrity wasn’t easy (I am also work-in-progress) but the results are amazing. There’s nothing like it. I cleaned up my life of drama and life became so much smoother. My thoughts start to manifest instantly because of the lack of mental and emotional clutter.

Do you mean what you say and only say what you mean? All we have in this world are our actions and words. Who we are, what we believe, and what we choose to value only comes into reality when we speak, when we think or when we act.

Like a double-edged sword, the word can be use either to set us free or enslave us in a self-made prison. Look at how leaders around the world use the word. Some of them use the word to lead people towards happiness and freedom while others use it to spread fear and to keep people as slaves under their rule. We do that too with our opinions. As we were growing up, our parents and teachers gave us their opinions and we believed their opinions. Some of us made agreements with ourselves that we are ugly, stupid or hopeless at sports. We formulated beliefs that became self-fulfilling prophecies.

Word misused in the form of gossip is pure poison. As the Jewish quote goes, “Gossip kills three: the speaker, the spoken of, and the listener. People gossip all the time, openly giving opinions about people they know and people they didn’t know. Gossip is so widespread that it is the normal way of communication for some people.

Are you aware of the amount of gossip you have about yourself? Is your self-talk full with phrases like “I am getting old”, “I will never be successful”, “I look fat in this outfit”, “No one really loves me”? Are you 100% true to yourself? Do you break promises you make with yourself? A little bit of you die each time you do not honour a promise you have made be it with yourself or with someone else. After some time, you do not trust yourself anymore and there is an internal conflict within.

Reflect on the times when you gossiped about someone to gain support for your point of view from others. How many times have you spread poison just so you can feel good about your point of view? Poisonous words circulated in this manner are energy vampires and they suck the daylights out of everyone. Stay away from gossip (even as a passive listener) and notice how much more energy you have.

By choosing to be impeccable with your word, you become immune to negative ideas and suggestions. Your mind is a fertile ground for words of love. When you are impeccable with your word, you feel happy and at peace with yourself. Your level of self-love can be measured by your impeccability of your word.

Just imagine what you can create by adopting this agreement with yourself. It will lead you to personal freedom because you would transcend this dream of fear and go straight to heaven.
