Goddesses
BY CHIM LI YEN
Our earliest ancestors saw the Divine Feminine as the source of all that is. Their reverence for Her is seen in the images and stories of thousands of Goddesses from cultures across the world. Ancient Goddesses were treated with the great respect and admiration as they were believed to sustain humanity. They were called upon for everything from ensuring fertile crops and easy childbirth to attaining wealth, health or even, a peaceful death.
We continue to worship, honour and pray to female deities. Communion with the Divine Feminine in the form of Goddesses is essential in many traditions such as in Tibetan Buddhism, Hinduism, Native American tribes, South American and African cultures.
The Goddess and Her many forms are available to us for divine inspiration and guidance. She is appreciated for Her archetypical meaning and the metaphor of feminine power she represents. Goddesses as a feminine archetype remain alive in the psyche of women, influencing her personality with a distinct character and a way of sharing her unique gifts with the world.
Different Goddesses represents various aspects of divinity and also aspects of our humanity. They can be wild and mild, powerful and gentle, compassionate and passionate; they’re virgins and queens, mothers and daughters, rulers of the universe battling evil, nurse a baby and love their consorts simultaneously. Their energy can heal, empower, guide and help us find our North Star in life’s rocky path. They inspire us to be all we can be.
Most women were not exactly brought up to believe that there is a divine power within us. We were taught that divinity is found in men, in places of worship, in the images of God and through monks, pastors, imams and other holy leaders.
We need to bring this magic of the Goddesses back into our lives and the lives of our children. The Goddesses are role models paving the way for us to live the life we truly want. We relate to their stories and their traits easily so we can access their particular energies by connecting to that aspect within ourselves whenever we require some extra help.
Successful people have something in common – they have learned how to tap into their innate power within. They are able to take on challenges with a certain grit and determination, striving toward a higher state of integrity while consciously maintaining their balance. It makes practical sense to identify our own Goddess nature and strengthen it. A ‘Goddess consciousness’ empowers us by reminding us of our Divine entitlement making us feel worthy and destined for success.
We can all be Goddesses! We just need to consciously embody Her traits. A Goddess:
- is focused, dedicated, passionate and not afraid to pursue her dreams.
- faces her fears head on. She calls upon her reserve of inner power to pursue her wildest dreams.
- seeks a balance between material and spiritual goals.
- knows that power is not external. Power comes from true connection with the divinity within herself.
- celebrates herself and her femininity as an extension of the creative force of the universe.
- is in alignment with her spirit. Her thoughts, words and deeds are in harmony.
- is of service to others. She understands that giving is the same as receiving. She is able to give and receive unconditionally.
- supports other women and treasures her female friendship.
- honours the men in her life, the gifts that they bring and desires a partnership based on soulful and sacred loving.
- is honest with herself and with people around her.
- adores and protects her children, the ones she loves and the causes she believes in.
- is true to her own heart and heeds the call of her soul.
- has unwavering faith in God.
We are divine in nature … it’s just that we sometimes forget. Now is time to remember.
